The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors
Note from a Friend:
Mr. Marshall Ecker, Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisor, is proposing a
strong resolution against lifting the ban on uranium mining for his BOS
meeting on October 1.
As you know, if a resolution like this comes forward, it is almost mandatory
that it be passed. If not, we lose much momentum and progress. At this
time, we do not have enough votes to pass this resolution.
Therefore, I am asking everyone to pitch in and call, write, and/or visit
your supervisor over the next few days. And please come to that meeting in
Chatham on October 1. We know that we have three good Board members with
us......Ecker, Hagerman and Barksdale.
The other four......Snead, Harville, Barber, and Bowman, may or may not vote with us, and may just abstain, thereby blocking passage without taking a position.
Their arguments against a resolution may revolve around the Governor's
Uranium Working Group which is to complete its work in early December. The
fact is, the UWG needs input from this county, ground zero, immediately.
The UWG needs to know what we believe should or should not be done regarding
the issue...........not after their report is finished.
Sooner or later, we citizens of southside must come to understand that our
fate should not be in Richmond's hands, but in the best hands
possible.........our very own. We need to tell that to our representatives,
not only our local council members and supervisors, but our state
legislators too. This is the time to turn that corner!!
The whole state is watching us, waiting to take their cue on how to vote on
this matter. Please give your Supervisor the strength to send a clear
message to all concerned.......
Keep The Ban!!
Please write and ask to keep the ban
