Officials Warn Sewer Accident on Smith River in Martinsville

Martinsville, VA - The rain over the past few days has caused some problems.
Thursday, officials at the Virginia Department of Health sent out a warning against swimming and wading in the Smith River in Martinsville.
They say heavy rain has temporarily overwhelmed the city's wastewater treatment system, causing some untreated water to get into the river.
Officials say there is no evidence that the drinking water has been affected.
