Virginia Uranium presents to LGA

On August 3, 2011, Walter Coles Sr. and Patrick Wales of Virginia Uranium, Inc. were the guest speakers at the Lake Gaston Association’s monthly meeting. Over 50 citizens were in attendance.

Although the commitment to speak was made prior to the LGA signing a resolution against lifting the current moratorium on uranium mining in Virginia, both VUI and the LGA felt it was important to keep the commitment.

About two weeks prior to the meeting, the LGA put together about four pages of questions concerning the proposed mining and milling operation at Coles Hill, as well as specific questions concerning the construction of tailings confinement cells and measures that would be taken to assure that these tailings would not enter the environment. Wales provided VUI’s answers to most of these questions in the presentation.

The LGA has not changed its position on keeping the moratorium on uranium mining in Virginia.

Despite measures outlined by VUI in its presentation to prevent a potential disaster, the LGA considers that the rewards do not outweigh the potential risks that accompany the mining, milling and long term storage of tailings in Virginia.
