Comment: A lot of the people listed below are friends of the local/Canadian uranium mining people, with land nearby for some that may profit with the mine.........Keep the Ban
Virginia Uranium Inc. will send nearly a dozen people to a reclaimed uranium mining area in Ontario, Canada, next week.
Elliot Lake, a two-hour drive north of the U.S. border, was the largest uranium mining area in the world for 30 years, but is now a prosperous retirement community.
The group from Pittsylvania County is scheduled to leave Sunday and return next Tuesday.
The trip will cost about $2,500 per person, according to Virginia Uranium, which hopes to mine a large uranium deposit about six miles northeast of Chatham.
Participants include Willie Fitzgerald of Chatham, Jim McDole of Chatham, Carol East of Sheva, Bland Wall of Chatham, A.J. Nuckols of Mount Airy, and L.P. Moss of Spring Garden.
