Virginians: Urge Gov. McAuliffe to veto bill that would force ratepayers to pay for new nuclear reactor in Virginia!

URGENT! URGENT! URGENT!

Virginians: Urge Gov. McAuliffe to veto bill that would force ratepayers to pay for new nuclear reactor in Virginia!

Dear Gov. McAuliffe,

The Virginia legislature has passed a bill that would let Dominion Resources collect money from ratepayers in advance for construction of a new nuclear reactor.

Please veto this bill.

As the Washington Post reports, your Attorney General, large industrial users of electricity and environmentalists all agree that this bill should not become law.

Ratepayers pay for the electricity they consume.

They should not also be forced to become a private bank for a utility's construction project

If the utility cannot borrow money from the private sector, then the project probably is not economically viable in the first place.

A similar scheme was rejected last year in Iowa, while in Florida the failure of its similar law--which has led to ratepayers paying hundreds of millions of dollars for abandoned nuclear project--has led to mounting calls for repeal.

Don't let Virginia make the same mistake Florida did.

Please veto this bill.

Thank you
