The Keep the Ban Coalition — a group opposed to lifting the state’s uranium mining ban — honored Danville City Council on Thursday.

Dr. Pradeep Pradhan presented City Council with a framed certificate of appreciation from the group, thanking council members for their “steadfast support.”

Pradhan said the city, with other groups and organizations also committed to the ban, were responsible for stopping the progress of the proposed uranium mine in Pittsylvania County last year and “we hope you will re-affirm your commitment” to keeping the ban, pointing out that one containment leak would destroy local drinking water and cause major health issues.
