“Race To Keep The Ban” fundraiser Friday,

Time:  6:00pm until 10:00pm

at Virginia International Raceway,

1245 Pine Tree Rd, Alton, VA ‎ (434) 822-7700

organized by the Virginia Coalition to fight efforts to lift the state’s ban on uranium mining and milling.

Individual tickets are available for $75 and corporate sponsorship can be obtained for $2,500, with proceeds going to support the Virginia Coalition’s lobbying and educational efforts to stop uranium mining in neighboring Pittsylvania County.

To facilitate the trip to VIR, the Coalition has organized bus transportation Friday from Halifax Country Club in Halifax. A bus will be leaving the country club at 5:20 p.m. Transportation is free to any sponsor, Patron level and higher.

For individual ticket sales or donors less than $250, price for transportation is $15 per person or $25 per couple.

Guests at the fundraiser will be entertained by Dane Ferguson and Improbable Cause. The event also will feature a silent auction, catered dinner and educational information. It will run from 6-10 p.m.

Last year, the Coalition raised more than $100,000 at the inaugural fundraiser at the farm of local Del. James Edmunds. The proceeds are used to support marketing, educational and lobbying efforts in the local area and in Richmond leading up to and during the past legislative session.

Virginia Uranium Inc., which is seeking to overturn the state’s longstanding mining ban, has vowed to bring the issue back before the General Assembly when it convenes in January.

Reports filed with the secretary of the commonwealth reveal that Virginia Uranium was the top spender in lobbying and gifts to Virginia legislators, spending more than $1 million to convince legislators and the governor to lift the ban.

The Virginia Coalition is a group of business leaders and job creators from Southside Virginia that are opposed to lifting the 30 year ban on uranium mining in Virginia. We are working with legislators year round to prevent this potential catastrophe from happening. The risks to the area are economic as well as health. The risks are just too great for short term jobs.
Join us for great food, drink, music, both silent and live auctions and the opportunity to help secure our way of life at one of the best v...enues in Halifax County and Virginia.

We will have Dane Ferguson and Improbable Cause as the entertainment for the evening.
