To the editor,

The Rev. Antonel A. Myler Sr. appeared in the Star-Tribune on Sept. 11 in an advertisement paid for by Virginia Uranium Inc. encouraging people to join a group that wants to end the ban on uranium mining in Virginia.

The advertisement in the Star-Tribune identified him as pastor of Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church, which implies to people that he was representing his church and members of his congregation.

This is not true.

The officers and members of Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church support keeping the uranium ban in Virginia.

The Rev. Myler in no way is speaking or acting on behalf of his church or church members, but only for himself.

The uranium mining ban must be continued because of the serious threat to the health and safety of Banister District residents and throughout Virginia.

Mining, milling, and storage of a dangerous, radioactive metal like uranium risks our water supply forever.

Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church supports the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors and the Danville City Council in keeping the ban on uranium mining in Virginia.
