Virginia Campaigns :
On March 24, 2012, more than 200 activists peacefully encircled the Dominion Virginia Power headquarters in a protest against the company's efforts to keep Virginia's energy choices firmly in the 20th century.
As the largest electricity supplier in Virginia and the biggest non-party donor to state politicians, Dominion has a stranglehold on Virginia’s energy policy.
Wind turbines in California
Virginia's 2007 voluntary Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) (§ 56-585.2) was meant to make Virginia’s air and water cleaner, and reduce the commonwealth’s emissions of greenhouse gases. Unfortunately, lobbyists for the state's largest utility companies riddled the RPS with so many loopholes that it is not serving this intended purpose.
Activists at the State Capitol show their support for offshore wind power
Virginia boasts a tremendous renewable energy resource: offshore wind. The Chesapeake Climate Action Network is working with other Virginia environmental groups to encourage Dominion Virginia Power and Governor McDonnell to work together to bring offshore wind energy development to the commonwealth.
