The Ministers Fellowship of Pittsylvania County is very concerned about uranium mining in Virginia.
We feel that we as ministers are to be concerned about the whole man — body, soul and spirit.
We are to help protect them from injustices and stand with them when the facts indicate that something like uranium mining poses a potential danger.
The facts state that it has the potential of endangering our health, our drinking water, livestock, and crops.
Yes, we are very concerned because this is many of our parishioners’ livelihood.
We are just as concerned about our neighbors downstream from us, who would also become endangered if uranium mining is allowed in Pittsylvania County.
While we do understand that uranium mining has the potential of bringing in revenue and jobs, we also believe that we take the risk of losing many jobs that we already have and the risk of discouraging other businesses from coming to our county.
As responsible leaders of our congregations and the community, we feel that we have an obligation to let them know where we stand on this issue.
Therefore, on Oct. 2, 2012, we, Ministers Fellowship of Pittsylvania County, voted unanimously to stand against lifting the ban on uranium mining in Virginia.
