This report prepared for the Roanoke River Basin Association in Danville, Virgina provides a site-specific assessment of water-related issues from the proposed Coles Hill uranium mining site. The author, Dr. Robert Moran, has thirty-nine years of domestic and international experience in conducting and managing water quality, geochemical and hydrogeologic work for private investors, industrial clients, tribal and citizens groups, non-governmental organizations, law firms, and governmental agencies.
Moran was involved in 1983 as a hydrogeological and water quality consultant to the two companies that discovered the Coles Hill deposits.
If the Virginia legislature votes to rescind the current statewide ban on uranium mining and the project is approved by regulators, Virginia Uranium, Inc. would use open pit mining to extract the uranium.
Moran concludes that the project would have long term negative impacts on water resources in the area.
