RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - An independent study concludes that a uranium mine and milling operation in Southside Virginia would present "potential risks and potential rewards."

The report released Thursday was commissioned by the Danville Regional Foundation to assess the socioeconomic impact within a 50-mile radius of of a uranium mine and milling facility in Pittsylvania County.

The study by RTI International concludes that the region would see the addition of 724 jobs and $162 million to region's economy annually over more than 20 years.

That comes, however, with risks to the environmental - real and perceived - that could hurt the region's reputation.
