Uranium Mining is a statewide issue in Virginia

The 1978 news article illustrates that uranium mining is a statewide issue in Virginia.

However, we must not forget that it may become an NC issue as well.

The article is entitled URANIUM DETECTED AROUND SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE--BUT NO PLANS TO MINE IT.

The article says that Franklin Co. is described as having rich deposits of uranium ore.

It was said at the time, that development in that area would make it difficult to secure leases and mine.

The article mentions from Mt. Cross through Mt. Airy, taking in the White Oak Mountain Range as areas of interest.

The second part of the article mention Floyd and Patrick Counties as counties of interest re: uranium mining leases.
