Mining companies charged over actions during Queensland floods

Comment: So modern mining cannot control flooding and it pollutes the environment! No to uranium mining and milling!

The Queensland Government has charged two more mines in the state's north west with causing serious environmental harm.

Late last year, MMG Century Limited and Birla Mount Gordon were charged.

Now CopperCo Limited, which owns Lady Annie Mine, has been charged with causing serious environmental harm during the 2009 wet season, by allegedly contaminating waterways.

The government has also laid charges against Australian Raw Materials Corporation, which owns the Great Australia Mine, for causing serious unlawful environmental harm in May 2009.

"What it showed us in the 2009 floods is that we really had to pay attention to the environment."
