Keep the EPA!

Comment:  Remember Uranium Mining and Milling will release toxic minerals into our Water, Congressman Robert Hurt, father's investor in local uranium mining company, is trying to kill the EPA.  So please sign the petition below, Keep EPA, Keep the Uranium Ban!
While Republicans rage about an “EPA that is out of control,” the reality is a meek agency buffeted by political winds making, at best, incremental progress.

While President Obama’s withdrawal of proposed EPA ozone rules for overtly political reasons starkly impeached the claim of “science-based” decision-making, a deeply fearful dynamic runs throughout the agency. EPA does not want to rock the political boat, meaning that it is now afraid to –

• Intervene even when there is shocking state pollution enforcement dereliction . [Check out the new video featuring the Koch brothers – one of the nation’s leading polluters and EPA bashers – detailing the effects of their mill on one community. ]

• Enforce basic rules preventing corporate control of the pollution permit issuing process; and

• Help communities escape exposure to toxic chemicals due to lackadaisical state-supervised clean-ups which, in some cases, have dragged on for decades.

Meanwhile on the regulatory side, from coal ash to chromium, EPA is slow-walking, trying to do as little as possible until after the 2012 election. As a result, if Obama is a one-term president, EPA’s record will be distressingly modest.

PEER is working with frustrated EPA activists who simply want the agency to enforce the law.
