What: A full day on the latest watershed issues
When: October 7, 2011
Conference: 8:00am – 4:30pm
URRR Annual Meeting: 4:30pm – 5:30pm
Where: Ferrum College, Ferrum, VA

This one-day conference on the latest actions and issues shaping the Roanoke River will focus on stormwater, water quality and quantity, tourism and recreation, uranium mining in the basin, and restoration and land management. The day will include a fantastic lunch and keynote address, discussion sessions and more on the beautiful Ferrum College Campus. Following the session the Upper Roanoke River Roundtable will hold its annual meeting. If you are a member or would like to join please sign up for this meeting. Following this conference, on Saturday Oct 8th, a historical guided tour of the Upper Roanoke River is being offered by the Virginia Canals Society. See below for more details.

Historical River Tour

On Saturday, Oct 8th, the Virginia Canals Society will be hosting a Roanoke River Guided Float, led by William Trout. Getting out for a day on the river is a great way to follow up on a day long conference on issues. The Upper Roanoke River float trip will highlight the history of the bateaux on the Upper Roanoke and Salem as a port. The exact location of the Saturday, October 8th float is pending on weather, water level and interests of participants. The remnants of Batteau can still be found on our rivers.
