4/14/2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Piedmont Residents in Defense of the Environment (PRIDE) Hosts "Keep the Ban".

PRIDE will sponsor a presentation by Mary Rafferty of the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Danville Public Library Auditorium, 511 Patton Street, Danville, VA from noon until 1 PM.
Rafferty will present information regarding the "Keep the  Ban" Coalition and its mission
The Coalition is a group of local, VA and NC state based organizations working to maintain the existing ban on uranium mining in Virginia.  Virginia Uranium, Inc. is lobbying the General Assembly to lift the ban.
A mill for processing the ore and tailings disposal is also planned for the region.
There is increased grassroots support in VA and NC for a permanent ban on uranium exploration and mining due to negative impact on water resources, watersheds, economic diversity and human health. Municipalities are adopting resolutions to "keep the ban".
