Davis has courage to stand against uranium

Comment:  Thanks for Mr. Davis to be the only candidate to be honest about the problems of u mining!  The rest of the wimps say want for the study but which study, the NAS Uranium Mining Study paid for by Virginia Uranium Inc!  The members of the NAS U Mining Study work for the nukes and uranium mining corporations like Areva, I mean really....a bias study!  No to U mining and milling!

It is most important that Henry Davis be elected to the Senate seat recently vacated by Mr. Hurt.

Hank Davis is the only politician who has had the courage and good sense to say that uranium mining would not be a viable course of action for Pittsylvania County or for the commonwealth.

He was here in the 1980s when the uranium issue first came to the forefront.

He has studied uranium mining and its effect on communities where it has occurred and is still occurring, both in the United States and in foreign countries as well.

He has taken a common-sense approach to the concept of uranium mining and has seen beyond the promises of jobs and economic recovery for Pittsylvania County that the uranium industry has put forth as a certainty.

Hank Davis has looked at both sides of the equation and decided, wisely, that the long-term damage and ill effects, which inevitably result from uranium mining and milling, are not worth the few local jobs (if any) and the temporary boom-bust economy that would result.

The black-and-white statistics of uranium mining all over the world clearly demonstrate that that industry has left a legacy of health problems, environmental damage, and mountains of toxic waste that must be maintained forever at the expense of the taxpayers of Pittsylvania County.

Uranium is a short-term gamble of the worst kind. Hank Davis sees that and is willing to publicly declare that he will stand against the other politicians who have fallen in line behind the uranium bandwagon.

His opponent, on the other hand, has yet to state any position about uranium other than to say, like all the others, that he is awaiting the results of the "study."

But Hank Davis knows that the study is only another step toward mining uranium in Virginia.

What is there to study, after all? Why would the uranium at Coles Hill be any different from or any less toxic than any other uranium?

It is not. Uranium is poison, and the mining and milling of uranium only make that poison spread into our air, water, and our own bodies.

Hank Davis cares more about his constituents than to let that happen to them.

That is why he needs to represent us in Richmond as our new senator.

Vote for Henry Davis.
