Pittsylvania County Supervisors Chairman Hank Davis Jr. formally announced his candidacy for the 19th District seat that 5th District Congressman-elect Robert Hurt currently occupies.

Davis, who stopped in Danville, Chatham, Altavista and Franklin County on Friday, described himself as a conservative Democrat who loves his Republican friends and neighbors. He would like to work in a bipartisan manner to represent well all constituents — Democrats, Republicans and independents — of the 19th District.

“I think we’ll all work together for the betterment of the commonwealth,” Davis said.

Davis told supporters he knows what it takes to attract industry.

During his 11 years as a county supervisor, he knows the area has lost a lot of jobs.

Davis counts as a strength that he has been on the ground with people in Pittsylvania County and knows how they think. He believes the people in Franklin County and southern Campbell County also share similar challenges.
