Uranium mining should get attention

Comment:  No to Uranium Mining!

Opinion:

On Dec. 22, in the opening sentence of the lead "Local" story on a Powertech test permit hearing, the Coloradoan had me saying I didn't think it mattered if a proposed uranium mine pollutes the water.

Now this is attention-getting, but not the kind I had intended when giving testimony the night before in Nunn to the EPA.

What I'd said was that it didn't matter how pristine Powertech's operation was, when people hear there's any uranium mine only 10 miles away from this population center, they won't want to move here.

If you're concerned about this issue, and you should be, excellent information is available at http://www.nunnglow.com/.

C.A.R.D. is a dedicated and hard-working organization of volunteers working to illuminate the damaging effects of Powertech's proposed uranium mine.

It would also help if in future coverage, each article, the Coloradoan published the details of when and where these public meetings are to be held and how to contact the EPA with comments if unable to attend.
