Dave Searles: Uranium mining and processing problems negate nuke power benefits

Comment:  Nuke power is full of CO2, steam has some radiation, no to uranium mining and millings!

Dear Editor:

Nuclear power plants once on line may not contribute to global warming (my comments, the steam has radiation and some CO2), but the problem is the (uranium) mining and processing of nuclear fuel.

This is something that the pro-nuclear people either ignore or pretend is not a problem.

Mining uranium causes water pollution problems and the processing of it for use in nuclear power plants uses tremendous amounts of energy and causes much air pollution.

The processing plant in Paducah, Ky., uses coal-fired power to process nuclear fuel. This negates any so-called benefits of nuclear power.
