Safe drinking water should be a birth-right for everyone

Comment:  Thanks VCN for all your work and helping us with the uranium fight!

Did you know this is World Water Week?

Virginia Conservation Network is proud to be part of this international movement to make clean water available to more people and protect the sources of our drinking water.

Around the world, there are many people for whom clean water is still a luxury. According to the World Health Organization, 884 million people lack access to safe water supplies--approximately one in eight people. Lack of safe water costs 3.5 million lives each year.

Here in Virginia, rivers and lakes provide abundant drinking water.

But are we doing enough to protect these precious resources? Polluted runoff carries everything from PCBs to litter into our waters.

Corporations are eying Virginia for uranium mining and “fracking” for natural gas. These dubious practices that have poisoned wells and streams in other states.

VCN is fighting to keep them out of Virginia.
