US EPA Presents Webinar Series Dec. 15: Renewable Energy on Potentially Contaminated Land
Comment: State of Virginia, let's go green before we have the same contaminated lands because of Uranium Mining! Let's put solar panels and windmills on lands in Virginia that has uranium locations instead of blowing up hills for the deadly radiated uranium!

Dec. 1, 2010 - Through its RE-Powering America's Land initiative, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is encouraging renewable energy development on current and formerly contaminated land and mining sites. EPA has identified thousands of acres of Brownfield, Superfund, mining, and potentially contaminated sites with potential for utility scale solar facilities. Siting renewable energy facilities on brownfields offers significant benefits to communities.

As part of the EPA's RE-Powering Webinar Series, Courtney Welch will provide an overview of the Department of Energy's Technical Assistance Program (TAP). State and local governments, Indian tribes, and overseas U.S. teritories may apply to receive technical assistance from NREL for understanding and deploying enery efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
Technical assistance includes:
* Project Assistance -- renewable energy siting, green buildings, technical assessments, and meansurement and eveluation
* Program Design -- energy efficiency and renewable energy assessments and portfolio design,sustainable community design, and assistance with reducing international barriers.
* Contract Assistance -- Technical specifications development for requests for proposals (RFPs) and performance contracting
* Financing Policies and Programs -- design and structure of revolving loan funds, loan loss reserves,credit mechanisms, and leveraging private investment
* Planning -- Strategic planning, erergy management, building codes, project screening, and cost and capacity factors
* Policy Analysis -- local, state, federal, and financial
* Skills Development -- trainings, workshops, peer matching, and Webinars
