Virginia Uranium seeks to end 1982 moratorium on uranium mining in Virginia

Comment:  Look at the following statement: "Is it worth it, should Virginia take the chance of serious short and long run health hazards to pursue nuclear power more aggressively by extracting greater amounts of uranium?"  My answer is no, VUI only wants the monies and does not care about the public plus the Canadians will bring in outsiders do to the mining and milling and ruin our water, land and our health!  No to uranium mining!

The project manager for Virginia Uranium, claimed that opponents of the proposed mining for uranium in Virginia “have been selective in objecting to the committee’s members.”

Of course they have, and for good reason.

While nuclear power is carbon dioxide neutral, uranium mining is an important contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.

Virginia Uranium has been attempting to lift the moratorium on uranium mining in Virginia that was set in place in 1982 so they can extract the $7 to $10 billion worth of uranium that is located beneath several hundred acres it owns in Chatham.

The idea of mining for uranium would not be so horrible if it were not for the abysmal safety records of companies extracting energy sources from the ground.

More often than not, public and worker welfare take a backseat to making an extra buck.

Is it worth it, should Virginia take the chance of serious short and long run health hazards to pursue nuclear power more aggressively by extracting greater amounts of uranium?
