Legal action launched over Xstrata discharge from mines
Comment: When it rains, it floods and mines discharge their water to creeks and this is a given if VA lifts the ban on uranium mining! We have flash floods in VA all the time and it cannot be control!

Mining giant Xstrata says it has been advised the State Government has begun legal action over the discharge of water from a north-west Queensland mine.
In early 2009, unprecedented rainfall and widespread flooding in the north-west led to some mines discharging water from their operations.
Xstrata has now been told the Department of Environment is starting action under the Environmental Protection Act - over a stormwater discharge from the Ernest Henry mine near Cloncurry.
The company admits it did discharge water into the nearby Gipsy and Eliza creeks but says it invested almost $1.5 million to counteract affected areas and upgrade stormwater on-site.
